Today's post is a quick tutorial for making yarn carrots. Spring is fast approaching (though you wouldn't know it on the east coast), and Easter decor is a favorite of mine. So many different color variations to choose from. I have a lot of plans for my Easter decorating game this season. Naturally, it starts with fake food. These carrots are super easy and fast to make. The perfect addition to any spread.
Materials List:
- Magazine or Newspaper Pages
- 26 Gauge WIre
- Yarn (Orange)
- Yarn (Green)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
Step 1: Rip a page from a magazine
Step 2: Crumple the page to give it some volume
Step 3: Fold the crumpled page in half
Step 4: Roll the page into a cone shape with a point and fold the top down
Step 5: Crumple another page and add it to the cone shape to give it more volume, then repeat with a third page
Step 6: Wrap the 26 gauge wire around the magazine pages to secure them and shape them into a carrot
Step 7: Cut several (I did 8) pieces of green yarn to your desired length and fold them in half
Step 8: Use the wire and hot glue gun to secure the green yarn to the top of your carrot
Step 9: Tie the green yarn pieces into a knot to hide the wires and provide stability
Step 10: Use the hot glue gun to glue the end of the orange yarn to the body of the carrot
Step 11: Start wrapping the orange yarn around the piece to cover the magazine pages and wire
Step 12: Finish wrapping the orange yarn, making sure to get the desired carrot shape, and use the glue gun to keep any pieces in place that need securing
Step 13: Cut the orange yarn and glue it to the top of the carrot and tuck in the loose end
All done! Quick and easy. I plan to add some eggs and bunnies into the mix as well. So you can count on seeing these carrots pop up in some future posts. Cheers!
