Today's post is a quick tutorial for string art. I chose to do an Easter egg for this particular project, but the possibilities are endless. I'd eventually like to do the shape of the state of North Carolina., but that is for another day.
I started by choosing a piece of wood from my scrap wood pile. There was nothing particularly special about it. I chose it for its thickness, overall size, and the fact that I didn't have to make any cuts to it.

Once I picked my piece of wood, I traced its outline onto my sketch pad.
Then I was able to draw the shape of an Easter egg to fit within borders of my outline.
I cut the shape out and placed it on my piece of scrap wood.
I used wire brads and hammered them in along the edges of the paper egg cutout.
I started at the top and worked my way around until I had the egg shape mapped out with the wire brads. Then I removed the paper cutout.
With the egg shape created, I picked out a few colors of string to use. Since this was an Easter egg, I chose three different pastel colors: blue, pink, and yellow.
I started by tying the end of one of the strings to one of the brads and double knotting it.
Then I started wrapping the string around the brads, seemingly at random. I tried to space out the lines as best I could, but there was really no calculated method to the madness. I tied it off at the end the same way I did at the start.
I repeated the steps with the other two colors. I made sure to use all the brads so there weren't any unnecessary empty spaces.
And that's it! A cute, quick way to add some DIY decorations to your home.
Like I mentioned earlier in the post, I hope to be able to do one for the shape of the state of North Carolina. I think I will also use this same method around Christmas for a Christmas tree. At some point, I'm sure I will come up with another idea for the nursery, too. Maybe a princess crown. TBD!

There are those yarn carrots again!
