Today's post is another quick Easter/Spring decor tutorial. Easter eggs are always a staple in the decorating arsenal. I bought a large package of cheap, colorful plastic eggs last year and used them all over the house. It was effective but lacking the appeal I was going for. The colors were just too bright for my neutral theme. I decided I needed something a little less distracting. Something classy that would blend into my everyday setup.
Instead of buying new decorations, I decided to upgrade my current ones. I started with the plastic eggs. Decoupage seemed the best way to go. I have a very large supply of craft paper that I went through looking for the perfect pattern. In the end, I didn't use any of it. I used book pages instead. Below is the process.
Materials:
- Plastic Easter Eggs
- Book Pages
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brush
Step 1: Tear some book pages up into small pieces and a few long strips.
Step 2: Brush some Mod Podge onto the plastic egg.
Step 3: Place the book page pieces on the Mod Podge that's acting like glue. I started with a long piece down the center line to secure the two sides of the egg together.
Step 4: Cover the paper with another layer of Mod Podge to flatten it, and start adding the smaller pieces using the same steps.
Step 5: Finish adding smaller pieces with Mod Podge on the bottom and top of each piece until the entire egg is covered.
Step 6: Allow the Mod Podge to completely dry. Then decorate!
So simple, yet so classy. I bought the small wreaths for one dollar at a thrift store. They were perfect as nests for the eggs.
I have more Easter decor in the works. So you can expect to see these eggs again with other fun projects in future posts. Cheers!
