For the last two years I have been a part of the Raleigh Blondes vs. Brunettes Flag Football League. It is an organization of women who come together once a year to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association. Raleigh is one of approximately 30 different cities across the country that participate in the annual event. We have two teams: the Blondes and the Brunettes. I play for the Brunettes team.
This year our overall goal was to raise $60,000. As of today, we raised over $75,000!!! The game was on Saturday, June 6th, and the Brunettes came back from a 7-20 deficit to win the game 21-20. It was a much needed win against a team who'd won the last two years in a row. But more importantly, it raised a lot of money for a very good cause.

Every year on the night before the game, the Brunettes get together for an annual cookout. This year I decided to use my fondant skills to show my support and team spirit. I made a batch of cupcakes with a Brunette football theme. The cupcakes are chocolate fudge with buttercream icing and fondant toppers. Though not all of them were consumed, there were plenty of pictures floating around on Facebook of the confections. Sometimes dessert is just more fun to look at than to eat. Not that it stopped me...
I took some pictures of the process and listed the steps below. As for the cupcakes, I used a boxed cake mix. The buttercream icing was homemade and the recipe is also below. The fondant toppers were made from Wilton fondant.

Fondant cupcakes can be a little time consuming, but they are not hard to make. I like to make them for holidays and events because of their vast versatility. The cake and icing flavors can easily be interchanged, and the fondant can be decorated any way you want! Next holiday... 4th of July! Cheers!
